After graduating from Cooper High School in Abilene, Texas, O. E. (Ed) Elmore graduated from both the undergraduate and law school at the University of Texas at Austin. While he attended UT, Ed worked part-time in the Texas Legislature. In 1977, he and his wife Donnella moved to Bryan/College Station, Texas where he began to teach part-time at Blinn College and practice law.

In 1982, he became a lecturer at Texas A&M University in the management department, and in 1991, he also began to teach in the finance department. He was admitted to the graduate faculty in 2000. He retired from Texas A&M in 2018. Ed joined HLEPT in 1988 and he is board certified in residential and farm and ranch real estate law. Most of his practice is in real estate and probate law. Ed also handles estate planning, guardianship, elder law, and banking law matters.
